Founded in 1983 by brothers Willard Richardson Jr. and Patrick Richardson, The Unit Band gathered in a few multi-talented singers and musicians, all neighborhood friends who grew up together and attended Alcee Fortier High and surrounding schools. At the time, The Unit Band also interacted with other New Orleans based groups such as the Neville Brothers, Chocolate Milk, Family Players and Windjammer who later got signed to major labels.
