Description

First Word Records started in 2004 as a collaboration between Leeds promoter Aly Gillani (DJ Gilla) and Sheffield DJ Andy H. The duo felt that the fertile music scene in their corner of the UK wasn't getting the exposure it deserved and thus FW was born. Originally releasing music from their friends and peers (kidkanevil, Homecut, The Haggis Horns) the label has expanded over the years to include artists from across the globe including Souleance (France), Yosi Horikawa (Japan), Tall Black Guy (US), Ross McHenry (Australia) and Comfort Fit (Germany). Now based in London the label has now notched up over 100 releases and built a worldwide following.

To celebrate their first decade the label have put together some 10" vinyl releases (what else!) with a selection of some of the best releases of the last 10 years. The second, subtitled 'Most Wanted' pulls together 4 tracks that have never previously been released on wax. Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra's 'African Kings' taken from their self-titled debut album is a surefire slab of afro-dynamite! We've also added the much slept-on belter from Red - 'The Nuts' is a Danny Breaks-esque instrumental hip hop classic. The EP is rounded out with two great remixes featuring some very special guest vocalists. First up, kidkanevil's 2007 classic 'Good Morning, What's New?' featuring soul sister Andreya Triana is given a cinematic funk rework from our good friend Capstone (currently to be seen on tour with long-time collaborator Quantic). Finally Homecut's 'Time Difference' featuring J-Live is given the treatment by the legendary Marc Mac (4Hero), with a little help from the Steve Miller Band.
