We ended 2005 with the last minute arrival of the incredible "Sir/In This" 7" and have spent pretty much all of 2006 waiting for Various to return to the homespun delicacies of their own impeccable, eponymous imprint. This gorgeous 7" marks the end of a hectic year for Various, following on from the long awaited release of their debut album a few months back. "Bruk" on the a-side sees the return of seasoned spitter VEX last heard on the aforementioned "In This", weaving his way through probably the most jumped-up Various production yet. Like a decimated old skool classic rebuilt on fractured percussive spikes, this is about as far removed from formulaic urbanism as it gets - severe as anything but so well oiled it flows without any effort. A real killer. "Home (Edit)" on the flip revisits the sublime acid-folk of the original (first heard on the "Foller" 7") and re-wires it with a cantankerous break that makes every effort to push its low end as far down as it can possibly go - an undertaking we're totally powerless to resist. You know the drill with these - housed in another incredible sleeve by Bonesy and unlikely to last long on 1st pressing - get this in before the hatches batten down and another year comes to a satisfying, exciting close.
