"Waves on Canvas is the brainchild of Italian composer Stefano Guzzetti. 'Angel' is the debut single and features the vocal talents of Louise Rutkowski (This Mortal Coil) who delivers a beautiful haunting vocal that compliments Guzzetti's orchestral backdrop. The b side is remixed by John Fryer (The Hope Blister) who provides a lush dubbed out remix. The forthcoming album 'Into the Northsea' will feature many artists including Louise Rutkowski (This Mortal Coil / Craig Armstrong / 4AD), Ian Masters (Pale Saints / 4AD), Pieter Nooten (Xymox / Michael Brook / 4AD), Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Cluster / Harmonia / Brian Eno).

Louise Rutkowski : At 19 Louise was signed to CBS Records, recording three singles and an album with legendary soul producer Pete Wingfield, but it's her work with cult independent label 4AD for which she is best known. As part of the This Mortal Coil collective, Louise's distinctive voice can be heard on the seminal Filigree and Shadow and Blood albums, and as lead vocalist on The Hope Blister's critically acclaimed 1998 Smile's OK album. These projects established Louise on an international scale and secured her a dedicated fan base. Louise also performed in The Kindness of Strangers, with Moulin Rouge composer Craig Armstrong who was signed to US label Interscope Records, recording the highly regarded album Hope, with tracks produced by the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart and Bjork/Madonna co-hort Nellee Hooper.

John Fryer is an English record producer. Best known for his production work, he also branched out as a musician as one of only two constant members of This Mortal Coil (along with Ivo Watts-Russell), providing keyboards, strings and synthesizer sequencing for the band, and its offshoot, The Hope Blister. Starting out at Blackwing Studios in south London, Fryer's early career saw him working with seminal bands on the 4AD, Mute, Rough Trade and Beggars Banquet record labels, including Depeche Mode, Fad Gadget and the Cocteau Twins. It was his work with the last band, helping to develop their pioneering ethereal and ambient sound, that led Watts-Russell to recruit Fryer as his musical and producing partner for This Mortal Coil. The front cover design is the first of three exclusively commissioned works by the legendary artist Vaughan Oliver (v23).
