This month Funk Night Records is releasing a trio of "45s" from previously unheard combo John Reed and the Automatics. They're all excellent in different ways, though this double A-side could well be the best of the lot. Title track 'Ethneogalvanik' sees them deliver a formidably fuzzy, horn-heavy tribute to African soul and funk full of Meters-style organ lines, crunchy Tony Allen style polyrhythmic drums, fluid bass and flanged guitars. 'Good Morning Brew' takes a more forthright, floor-ready approach, with more prominent guitar licks, Afrobeat style drums and rising horn blasts.
