John Reed & The Automatics are a tight unit from Leipzig in Germany who deal in all things funky, soulful and break-driven. They have been turning out tidy 7"s in that mould since 2021 on the FNR label and this is their latest missive with the agenda-setting US crew. 'Hardbeat' kicks off with a bong0-laced groove that shuffles and wobbles with a deep bassline and plenty of skilled musicianship that gets you moving your rump. 'Psychout Lockdown' has a more raw feel to the drums and psyched-out synths that bring in an element of 60s funk allow with plenty of mellow chords that evoke campfire sessions.
